Pro bono activities

Providing legal assistance to all who need it, as well as ensuring the protection of civil rights and freedoms, is a lawyer’s vocation. So, our team participates in pro bono activities consisting in:

  • providing free legal advice to people unable to benefit from paid legal aid;
  • representing these persons before the courts or authorities;
  • providing advice or legal services to social organisations;
  • conducting workshops, lectures to broaden the awareness and legal knowledge of citizens (mainly for high school students);
  • engaging in the work of the Bar Association of Advocates and community initiatives.

Free legal advice

Free legal advice is available during duty hours hele at the Father Aleksander Fedorowicz Foundation (link: https://www.przyjacielealego.pl name may be a hyperlink) in Izabelin near Warsaw.

As a rule, sessions are held once a month. In urgent matters, lawyers can be contacted by phone to arrange an off-call meeting.

If such a need arises, there is a possibility of taking advantage of free consultations with a mediator (in such case, please contact the lawyer on duty).

Information on current on-call dates and contact

All sessions take place at the Father Aleksander Fedorowicz Foundation, which is based in the Parish House of St Francis of Assisi Parish in Izabelin – 83, ul. 3 Maja, Hornówek.

The advice is aimed at people in difficult life circumstances. As a rule, the legal advice does not involve DCA handling the case, unless there is a special need and the lawyer decides to take over the case due to the circumstances of the matter and the exceptionally difficult situation of the person requesting advice.

During the counselling, the lawyer will discuss the case with the client, explain the legal issues involved, and give advice on the actions to be taken.

All documents relating to the case should be brought to the consultation. It is possible to receive assistance in drafting pleadings, in particular letters initiating proceedings, applications for appointing an attorney/ex officio defender. A lawyer? Who gives legal advice during such session may not accept a case for commercial handling at [DCA].

Street Law projects

Our lawyers conduct classes on basic, practical legal issues. Such workshops are held in an interactive manner and serve to broaden legal awareness, and impart basic skills (e.g. drafting letters, exercising one’s rights, behaviour during a court hearing, contacts with the Police).

So far, such workshops have been conducted cyclically in high schools, junior high schools, as well as during the Constitutional Week organised by the Prof. Zbigniew Hołda Association.
